North West Passage Canada

North West Passage
North West Passage Canadian Sovereignty
So for the past few years we hear more and more about the Arctic, and the damage being done to the Planet by humans pumping out massive amount of green house gas. Basically everyone knows about the dangers of global warming. The melting Arctic and world wide loses of glaciers. So one of the major concerns for Canadians is the opening of the north west passage. Year by year the ice in north is melting and soon their will be a completely open shortcut for shipping lanes. Now all major countries want a free pass through the Canadian Arctic, like The European union, America, Russia, China and dozens of other nations. Now if these countries treat the northern passage like international waters their is very little over site and respect of the ecosystems. Think back to the Exon Valdez oil spill in Prince William Sound, Alaska, on March 24 1989. Some estimate's claim 260,000 to 750 000 barrels of crude oil spilled into the sea.

North West Passage

Until the recent spill last year in the Golf of Mexico, the Exon Valdez was one of the most devastating man made disasters. This spill happened about 21 years ago and the Sea Otter population was one of the hardest hit animals in the region. The population are roughly have of what they were in 1988. The Eco system is to delicate in Arctic region. One of the problem is year after year more International ship with use this route, and the crews will become less and less experienced and the ships hauling goods will be unequipped to deal with Arctic hazards. This combination is an accident waiting to happen.

So when a disaster happens in this area of the world Canada will be left with the environment damage and the cost of clean ups, because the North West Passage is routed thought upper Canada. Many nations are know targeting the north because their are many resource's to exploit. So I think the Canadian government needs to put more legislation thought the United Nations to make are coasts and inland water more protected.

Crime Prevention Canada

Crime Prevention or Super Max Prisons <Canada>

What about crime prevention in Canada and throughout North America. Criminals do not recognize our borders. The Canadian Government should try to help Canadian youths and first time offenders, rehabilitate themselves through drug rehab, A.A programs and provide cost free counseling. This may help offenders become involved in the community and become respectful law abiding citizens. ( I don't mean jail rehabilitation). Yes not all crimes deserve a second chance, especially murderers, sexual crimes or violent offenses.

I have a question, why does the Conservatives party in Canada feel it is necessary to increase sentences, on petty crimes. Why is it the Local and Federal Governments won't try to understand the reasons why people commit these crimes. Maybe more tax dollars could be spent on crime prevention and awareness instead of spending large amounts of money on building new Super Max Jail Facilities in both the Federal and Provincial categories.

The Canadian Liberal Government was on the ball in my opinion; with saying this isn't the way to fix the problem. I think sending young first time offenders to these jails turns them into more hardened criminals, 9 times out of 10. Once they receive a Provincial or Federal criminal record, their lives can change forever; even a provincial charge can effect employment options.

Once your name is in the system, the offender looks guilty, even when a business does a criminal background check before they hire you. I know this from firsthand experience; employers are not in favor with giving you the benefit of the doubt. Some, not all people feel there is no other option when their kids are hungry, their utilities are being shut off or they might possibly lose their homes.
Yes there will always be crime because a small group of people don't want to work, or conform to our society. But when people are desperate and in financial trouble, and all legitimate avenues are exhausted, some turn to crime when they can't find employment, desperate time, desperate measures.

So in conclusion there should be more Government policies to help with temporary financial relief. This would help someone in need of keeping up with payments whether it is house or car. One example could be small jobs around their community, snow shoveling, lawn care, cleaning up trash, tree planting etc. Isn't this better than putting people on welfare where they are not able to fully support themselves or retain any of their hard earned equity.

Political Attack Adds Canada

Political Adds Canada

April 19, 2011 I was watching T.V. And I saw a Conservative political attack add that was bashing the Liberal Party of Canada. Basically the add said the Conservatives want to Lower Taxes, but that's a lie. The Conservative Party wants to cut taxes only for citizens in the top tax brackets (the wealthiest Canadians and the largest Corporations). Corporate tax breaks, how is that fair? These people and Corporations are still in business, their incomes are secure, so what about the remaining 90% of Canadians, why should they have to pay record high taxes when they need their money? They want to tax middle and low income families at a time when job lose is so high. Sure every citizen should pay taxes but, large Corporations should pick up the slack for the people only working part time or unemployed Canadians. To me it seems like the Conservatives are only concerned about large Corporations and big Government. Look how well that worked out for the Americans. (No pun intended). In my opinion the Conservatives play on words and miss lead the public about their policies.
